Interview: Adam Orndorf – Unite and Take Over

Comicbookinterviews.com is pleased to present a multi-part interview series with the creators of the new Smith’s anthology Unite and Take Over. Creator Adam Orndorf  discusses his contribution to Unite and Take Over

JMH: What do The Smiths mean to you personally?

ADAM: The Smiths are my teen years. I remember being in high school and listening to their music on a regular rotation. People saw it as what kids today would call emo but I saw it as something different. Combine that with the fact that when I was in high school, a lot of the music lacked depth. I know that sounds kind of pretentious, but in a way it never hurts to hear something that speaks to you. The Smiths just kind of spoke to me.

JMH: How did you get involved in this project?

ADAM: I have known Shawn for a while now and he put out an APB on this project he was putting together. I volunteered because A. Shawn is a decent guy, B. I dig the music and C. it gave me a chance to get back into comics as a writer.

JMH: Have you worked with publisher Shawn Demumbrum from SpazDog Press before? If so in what capacity?

ADAM: Actually no, I haven’t. I just knew Shawn from his store and the Phoenix ComicCon.

JMH: Let’s talk about your contribution to the project…Why did you choose the specific song for your contribution?

ADAM: I love the song! I just really like the song and a lot of people hear it and hear something depressing but I hear the opposite. I hear people connecting with one another. I love writing stories where human connection is the key.

JMH: Creative teams were formed for each story. Tell the readers about your team.

ADAM: Describe your working relationship and what is the collaborative process like?

Truth be told, I haven’t had the chance to really collaborate with my artist, Russ. The only reason why is because my own schedule has been super hectic so I have been unable to really talk too much. He has my info though, so if he ever needs anything all he has to do is reach out.

JMH: Were there other songs that you wanted to sink your teeth into?

ADAM: No, not really. I listened to this one first and it hit me all over again. I just felt this was perfect.

JMH: Will you be at the Tucson Comicon for the launch of the book?

ADAM: I will! This will be my first time at the TucsonCon.

JMH: Where can fans see samples of the artwork?

ADAM: I believe the facebook page for “Unite and Take Over” should have it.

JMH: What other projects do you have on the horizon?

ADAM: I am currently shopping around my novel “The Marvel”. The story revolves around a junkie who robs an old man in an alleyway looking for prescription meds. When he gets home and takes the pills he is transported to another world where he is the next incarnation of that world’s greatest superhero.

JMH: Anything else you’d like to mention that we haven’t talked about yet?

ADAM: Keep an eye out for the Marvel and the next incarnation of “Unite and Take Over”. Shawn is putting a crazy amount of time and effort into this and I am sure the sequels to the book are going to be crazy awesome and I hope to be a part of them. I sent him a FB message telling him I would LOVE to do a Social Distortion Unite.

JMH: Adam, CBI appreciates your time, All the best!

ADAM: Thank you very much and I appreciate your time.
